The Food Place by Food Junction

3/5 PickyRatings

Located on level 3 at Raffles City, Singapore, a very good shopping mall designed for tourists.

This buffet-style eatery reminds me of a small cafeteria.  It’s a good place if you want to eat a light lunch or a heavy snack.  There are different stalls for each type of Asian food (e.g. Chinese, Singaporean, Korean).  You order your dish from the menu, and they actually cook it for you instead of taking a plate and putting food on it like in cafeterias.

It’s hard to decide what you want to eat.  There are a lot of good things.  I personally chose the Korean stall, and I ordered a plate of Korean BBQ beef ribs.  With that, they also gave me a bowl of authentic Korean soup and a bowl of rice.

One good thing about this place is that it is extremely close to the Swissôtel The Stamford.  We stayed there, and after we landed at the airport, we came to the Food Place to eat.  But a bad thing is that they don’t have fountain drinks, like Coca-Cola or Sprite.  So, in conclusion, this place could be better.

After you eat here, make sure you go shop at Raffles City.  It’s a haven of food, designer clothing, and much more.

Ghost Seal

So basically, this is a seal eraser.  It used to have two googly eyes where the eyespots were, but they both fell off.  So now it just looks like some type of zombie seal.

Just in time for Halloween!  Happy Halloween to all, no matter if you’re from Hong Kong or Malaysia!

Spring Deer Restaurant

This restaurant, located in Tsim Sha Tsui, will be probably hard to find.  Now you should know that all the good restaurants in Hong Kong are hidden.

DSC_0239This is another good eating place to try if you’re a tourist.  You’re going to walk up some stairs.  If you’re tired from a day of excursion, don’t worry, they have an elevator.

This was some time ago.  Please excuse me if I forgot how some food tasted.

Lucky you if you’re a tourist from America (like I am)!  Do you love Shark’s Fin Soup?  Well they have it here!  It is basically a rich pot of homemade chicken soup with large slices of shark’s fin in it.  Believe it or not, it is actually very good, but a little salty (so just add a little water to it).  Also, don’t add red vinegar to it.  It ruins the taste.

Mmm, Shark's Fin Soup. Curse the US for banning it!

Another thing you should eat here is the “Peking” duck.  There is a plate of duck skin (with fat 😦 ), along with some wheat buns with hoisin sauce.  So what do you do with all that?  Make a sandwich of course!  First, put the duck skin in the wheat bun.  Add some hoisin sauce to it, then eat it!  It is delicious.

For dessert, we had some sweet fried bananas.

This was really good, but I forgot what it was. I'm useless.

So make sure you try this place.  Just don’t get lost trying to find it.

This restaurant, located at the heart of Jordan in Hong Kong, is one of the many Hong Kong style eateries in the area.

However, it stands out from the rest, which you may not know at first.

The outside of the restaurant.

The outside of the restaurant. It is the one to the far left, not the one with the white sign.

Special advice: When you walk in, find your own table.  Expect it to be a crowdy and noisy environment.

But when you order things there, you’ll be amazed at how good they are.  I ordered a milk tea there, and it was really good.

The restaurant is REALLY famous for its STEAMED MILK CUSTARD.  ORDER THE STEAMED MILK CUSTARD, made with egg white, sugar, and milk, steamed.  It might sound disgusting, but it actually is really good.  Everyone, from ordinary Hong Kongers to Hong Kong celebrities come and eat the steamed milk custard there.  Yes, I’m not kidding when I say Hong Kong celebrities come there, just to eat the steamed milk.

So, if you’re a tourist, this is a good place to stop by and eat a snack.  And before you go, think about what you’re going to order (which is the steamed milk custard).

Well, everything is good to eat there.

Introducing the PickyRatings Evaluation System

Introducing the all new PickyRatings Evaluation System.

No, it is not some app by Apple, it is an original invention by me.

You will soon see PickyRatings on every single restaurant I post on.  It works like how you would evaluate a restaurant, by giving it 5 stars, 4 stars, etc.  The PickyRatings will range from 1-5 PickyRatings, with 1 being the worst rating and 5 being the best.

You will see a difference (especially you, yummynommer, who created the Yum System).

A Strip of Mango in My Shampoo?

Some of you might be thinking, This is such a weird post.

And this is a weird post.  Plus, what makes it more weird is that it is true.

I was happily showering one night, and then when I squirted some Burt’s Bees natural mango shampoo into my hand, this came out.

CSC_0507It might just look like an ordinary glob of soap to you, but trust me, when you touch it, you’ll know why I think it is a strip of mango.

yummynommer, I KNOW you won’t trust me.

All I’m going to say is that when Burt’s Bees says their stuff is natural, they mean it.

The Food Plaza

You might not know it, but in the middle of a dense urban area, there is a very nice and exclusive restaurant.  Just travel up the steep hills of Hong Kong Island until you reach the Happy Valley Clubhouse of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

The Food Plaza of the Jockey Club is a self-serve restaurant.  There is a wide variety of fine foods to choose from, from Chinese to Italian cuisine.

The Food Plaza plaza.

As always, I order the prime rib there because it tastes like US steaks.  I also tried the Russian borscht soup.

Steak, corn, and soup.

My 200g prime rib already has excellent meat, and it tastes even better with the steak “au jus.”  However, don’t eat the corn that comes with it because it was somewhat stale.

The borscht does not have a true tomato or beet taste to it.  Could it be artificial?  Somehow it was still pleasing.

For dessert, I got the authentic Swiss-made Movenpick ice cream.  I picked the Swiss Chocolate flavor.  The ice cream tastes like true chocolate, and the little chocolate shavings mixed in with the ice cream makes it taste even better.

Sorry guys, I don’t have a picture of the ice cream.  But I do have a picture of the huge smoothie my auntie ordered.

I know what you’re thinking, “I want to try this restaurant!”

Well, get to know a Jockey Club member because only members can purchase the food there.

A Michelin One Star restaurant

I forgot how some of the dishes tasted, so it will mostly be a picture post.

The clams in black bean sauce were delicious, and were equivalent to how the US Chinese restaurants made them.  However, the sauce was spicy.  Make sure you have a glass of water nearby when you start to eat it.

One thing you should DEFINITELY order there is their pork with crispy skin.   You should eat the crunchy skin, perfect with hoisin sauce (and spit out the fat 🙂 ).  Don’t eat the meat that comes with it though.

I tried this restaurant many days ago.  Sorry if you found this post boring.

Starbucks, Alexandra House, Central, Hong Kong

You might say that all Starbucks are the same and you have no need to review them, but the Starbucks here is very different from the US Starbucks.

First of all, the menu is different (but they do have a Green Tea Frappuccino).

The different menu.

The Green Tea Frappuccino.

Secondly, the Starbucks is much larger.

Whoa. That’s big.

Thirdly, the Starbucks in Hong Kong does not have the new La Boulange pastries that US Starbucks have.

Lastly, they have coffee that is really special, available only to the Starbucks that I went to.  It’s called Starbucks Reserve Coffee.

So I ate a Chocolate Tart here.

My chocolate tart.

It is very good, worth a try if you go here.  There is a big fat piece of chocolate in the middle.

And also, this Starbucks does not have its own WiFi, which is quite unfortunate.  But the good news is is that you can use your Rewards Card here.

So enjoy this Starbucks, which is one of the most popular in Hong Kong; but don’t bring your iPad.
